Dan Banks
Lewis Daniel Banks teaches history, geography, and rhetoric in the upper school at the Academy. In addition to these duties, he is also the 9th Grade homeroom teacher and the Scholar’s Bowl sponsor. Dan was born in Birmingham and grew up in Jasper, AL. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Samford University, and his Master’s degree from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Prior to joining the Academy in 2010, Mr. Banks taught for 16 years at Sumiton Christian School and also at Bevill State Community College. Mr. Banks is an active member of the Eastside Baptist Church, where he served as the youth minister, before he began his teaching career. He has a son, Josiah Daniel Banks, who attends Bevill State. In his spare time, he enjoys martial arts, chess, reading, swimming, and writing. He also has a passion for mission work. His favorite Bible passages include: Romans 8:1, Ephesians 6, and Psalm 1.
